Work is Joy is a brand built to celebrate work. Hard work. And craftmanship. And for those that appreciate process over the outcome. Not everyone finds joy in their work, but for those that do, welcome.

As a youngster, "Work is Joy" was my grandfather's favorite mantra. My grandfather - a lifelong engineer, sailer, woodworker, and tinkerer - was never afraid of hard work. In fact, quite the opposite. He loved it. And as he put my siblings and I to work building stone walls in his small, rocky yard in Maine, or fixing a sticky door, or jumping in the water with snorkels and a scrub brush to clean the bottom of his small sailboat, he would remind us, "Work is Joy, kids. Work is Joy." At the time we scoffed at this, thinking it was just a way to dismiss any of our whines or protestations, but I've come to realize it was a lot more than this.

He wanted us to fall in love with the work. And not just that work, but any work that we would do in our futures. He wanted to offer a different mentality, a different approach to what has been considered negative. Because when you fall in love with the work, it doesn't become work anymore. The idea of Work sheds its negative connotation and becomes…joyful. That's what he was offering.

Work is Joy.

And now, more than ever, my grandfather's words resonate. Now, more than ever, we need to appreciate and celebrate human work. The sweat, the struggle, and the perseverance that makes human work unique. And essential.
